I am particularly proud of this promotional video, as it is my most detailed animated video that I have produced to date. Made for the purposes of advertising the new official Horrible Histories escape room in liverpool, this video showcases a variety of history’s great characters in a very light hearted way. The video was very well received by both the team and those who have seen it online, and I am extremely proud of what I have achieved with it.
Here is my production process for the video:
- Initial script made by Simon Alnaimi and audio recorded by a talented local voice actor.
- Myself and Simon then sat down & discussed the projected before I started producing the video.
- I began by mapping out the storyboard and timings of the characters needing to be animated.
- I started with the Henry viii character, which I edited the flat image of the character to have separate body parts on multiple layers. I then took that character and animated a short 10 second sequence as a initial test before starting on the larger promotional video.
- After getting sign off on the animation style, I then edited each additional character in Photoshop ready for animating.
- One by one I then created each individual sequence within After Effects, before then beginning to bring them into Premier Pro ready for final production. I did this along side having the voice over in place, in order to keep the animation was in time with the narration.
- As I went along I tested how I would transition each sequence and began the process of sourcing sound effects that I would need for character movements and various objects.
- With each sequence in place and sound effects added I then moved onto adding in the characters noises and spoken parts. I had made sure to keep enough time in between the main voiceover to add in these and was just a case of making minor adjustments to make sure nothing overlaid.
- Finally I added in the backing track, which I felt really suited both the speed and the comedy elements of the animation perfectly.
I am very happy with the way the animations turned out for each character and the final result. The video was signed off and is now been used to promote the Escape Live escape room in Liverpool. I am very happy with the way the animations turned out for each character and the final result. We worked hard to ensure that each character’s movements matched their personality, and I think it really paid off in the end.
